| Salix shook his head slowly as he looked to Silla. He'd seen nothing of Eros since he had instructed him to flee the area. The dragon's green eyes soon switched back to the entrance of the cave - still seeing no movement - in one swift decision he stood up and made his way over and perched himself on the ledge.
Salix closed his eyes and lowered his head. He hoped that even being so detached from the forest at the moment, he would still be able to connect with it - even if it be for a few moments - just enough to be able to find where Eros may have placed himself. He readjusted his wings on his back and bent his head - silence. He couldn't even hear the copter any more, nor hear anything from the forest to alert him of any dragon's presence, 'they must have all fled...' Opening his eyes, the male let out a defeated sigh, there was no sign of him - not in the forest anyway, he could be hiding somewhere further away.
Salix turned back to the small group and looked over each one. 'What am I supposed to do with you lot...?' He'd never had any charges before, not did he plan on having any either. He'd made sure most of his life that there was never anyone to get in the way of his job - his sole purpose. And to suddenly have three young dragons with him, one a newly orphaned hatching, another a horse hybrid and the last loving the depth of the ground more than the above, variety may be the spice of life, but this dragon had no idea what he was to do with them.
He sat down silently, keeping his green eyes on each one, studying, but mainly thinking of what to do next.

| Violet looked up at the sound of climbing. The many legged one, Silla clambered over the edge of the cave. Her short screech irritated Violet's ears, making her pull back a little, as it echoed around the cave. She stood up and walked over to the others. Salix had gone to the entrance and seemed to be looking out but soon came back. "Well?" she asked, wondering about whether it was safe to go out again. | |

| Salix's eyes snapped to Violet soon after she had spoken. He resisted the urge to shrug in reply. He honestly had no idea what he would do next. From his recollection, the human's never gave up this soon, nor this easily either - experience had taught him about their relentlessness.
His eyes fixed on the young female his heart sank, thinking back to the last time something similar happened. Even though he had no real care for the group, he didn't want to see the same fate fall upon them. Scowling slightly, he turned his head and walked towards the exit of the cave. His feet gripped to the edge as he slowly let himself fall over the edge, wings tucked close to body and tail straightening as he cleared the entrance.
Feeling the wind against his face increase in force, he flicked his wings out to the side, fully stretched. In a matter of seconds he stopped his descent and swooped to a glide along the air. After banking back towards the cliff face, coming a few feet away from it, he started beating his wings to make climb the air to the lip of the cliff.
Speeding past the cave entrance he continued to the top, grappling to the edge of the cliff, and peering over the top with narrowed eyes. Spotting no immediate threat, he hauled himself up onto the level ground and smiled seeing the forest still in one piece. His tail flicked behind him slightly as a small fire built up in the bottom of his throat, just in case - something he would have never done before - he kept it burning in place, the glow peeking through his deep brown scales.
Listening to the surrounding area, a familiar and slowing 'thwomping' resonated through the trees - they'd stopped. His lips curled to a snarl as he listened to muffled voices as sharp yelps as they gathered and grew in numbers - this wasn't a good sign, and they had to go, or they would be found and flushed from the cave eventually.
Regret filled his heart as he decided what he had to do - eyes darkening in colour as he stood there. Glaring ahead, he stepped lightly through the forest, leaving a trail of browning foliage behind him. The humans came into sight and he stopped in his tracks, setting his body in an offensive stance. He stood in silence, tail wrapped in front of him as he watched the trees darken and shrivel around them.
Salix watched their eyes dart around in confusion, till one locked onto his own. He narrowed as he stared into the human's, watching shock and fear come across his face. A few of the humans backed away after noticing him standing there, bowing as the retreated behind the static helicopter. A few of them stood their ground defiantly aiming their weapons and playing chicken with the dragon.
Salix puffed out his chest and pulled his head back, the glow in his throat growing and travelling further up his neck. Few of the humans faltered, while the others stood in place - probably secure in the knowledge that a forest guardian would not start a fire, here of all places. The male narrowed his eyes even more, before releasing the built up tension and spraying flames in their direction.
When he stopped, he relaxed his head and looked at what remained when the smoke cleared. To his surprise, one man stood among the others clutching their chests and coughing away. A growl ripped through him as he watched the man drop his gun, holding a challenging stare.

| Basile, physically and mentally exhausted, watched with mild curiousity as Salix once again approached the edge of the cave. Her initial amuesment was quickly replaced with horror as she watched the large dragon dive out of the cave.
Hauling herself up, she waddled over to the edge. She felt herself tense as she got close, her talons digging into the stone beneath her. What was he thinking? She hoped he hadn't assumed he was safe because he was so large - humans were dangerous creatures. Or, she thought suddenly, perhaps he left them in here?
Anxiety flowed through her for several seconds before she caught a glimpse of Salix's wings as he decent to the ground. Absently, her tongue flicked, catching the scent of man. Guessing from Salix's posture, the dragon already knew what was coming.
She wanted to help Salix, but being wingless and trapped within unbreakable stone - there was no way for her to safely decend. Salix probably wouldn't have wanted her to come anyway. Her power was premature and would probably do more harm than good.
She paused, the smell of ash coming in the forest guardian's direction. She only had time to think the humans were causing the flames and then, Salix was breathing fire, in the direction of his forest.
The humans were too small for her to see, so she assumed that Salix had taken care of them. Scales shivering slightly, she watched Salix's stand his ground in confusion. She flicked her tongue, the scent of human still prominient in the area. She couldn't help but feel glad for that; the smell of charred flesh was terrible.
Feeling uneasy, she sat at the mouth of the cave. She would silently support Salix from afar. It would cause unneeded stress if she just went to sleep without knowing what had happened. She could sense something big about to happen.
